I finally made it back to Cypress Lakes Country Club for this July 2026 review. This was a perfect time to see how the golf course has been handling the summer heat. The short answer? The greens are good, fairways are running, and glad I booked a tee time Saturday (Aug 1st, 2026).
The last time I played Cypress Lakes was about 3 months ago in a solo scramble. I have wanted to get back since that tournament, as the course was in good condition then. Life kept getting in the way, but I finally got back and was excited to get out there and video. Since my last visit, Cypress Lakes has done an aerification, changed a cart path, and continues to improve the property overall. I am already looking forward to another round there as I believe things will be even better towards the end of the summer.
When driving into the parking lot, you can immediately get a glance at the conditions of the golf course. Except for some browning due to the heat we have been experiencing, the golf course looked great. The experience checking in was great as well. The staff is always friendly, but this time they went a bit beyond, helping with a small cooler for the drinks I just purchased and where I could get ice for it. Something they really didn’t need to offer with a beverage cart on the course.
The first place I headed while getting stretched out was to the practice putting green. It not only looked amazing, but it was rolling fairly quickly and smoothly. I was looking forward to seeing if the greens on the course matched those conditions. The range was mats only, although I was not sure why, but it was good enough to get warmed up and ready to play.
For the video of this review, I also did something a little different and talked more about the risk-reward the golf course offers. It is one thing I love about Cypress Lakes and why it is more of a challenge than many other courses in the greater New Orleans area. Cypress Lakes is a golf course you can not just hit driver everywhere on every hole. You have to play smart at times and hit the ball straight for the most part.
I played the Blue tees, which play just over 6,500 yards. Although I didn’t play well the entire round, I can not blame anything on the course conditions. The entire golf course was very playable even in areas that may not have looked that great. I was notified before teeing off that there were two greens that ended up with a fungus due to too much rain in a short period of time. Since that time to the day I played, there had been nearly no rain in a two-week period. I really only noticed one of those greens still with what I would call blemishes, and as long as the hole location is kept away from that area, the playability will not be affected.
Overall Conditions: 3.5 out of 5
Tee Boxes: 2.5 out of 5
The grass on just about every tee box was good and healthy. It looked brown from heat stress, but the Bermuda grass was holding up well. The only reason I give the tees a lower score is due to many of them being unlevel and one being mostly sand due to it sitting in shade all the time.
Fairways: 3. out of 5
The fairways were really good for the most part. They were cut to a good height even though some of the grass was a little thin due to excess heat and lack of rain recently. Even though they appeared brown from a distance, they were a decent green when right on top of them. The ball would sit up on top with a good lie everywhere. They were also firm, which allowed the ball to run out a good bit, which helped off the tee while giving you some options of running the ball up on an approach shot. There were a few small areas here and there that were slightly bare, but those areas I noticed were off to the edges of the fairways and not in the middle.
Greens: 3.5 out of 5
I really want to give the greens a 4 for their consistency alone. The speed was very consistent from hole to hole, and 90% of putts rolled true. Only a few bumps, and those were very minor, but your ball would keep it’s line. The only reason for the 3.5 rating is the two greens they have a current issue with, but there were two others that had some bare spots on them. One looked worse than it was, and you could still putt over it without any issue at all, while the other green it was all around the collar of the green and again did not affect playability.
I only experienced one bunker through the round, and even though it looked like regular dried dirt, it played very well. The sand was actually softer underneath, and the club was able to glide through the sand without issue, letting the ball come out easily. The edging around all the bunkers looked well maintained as well.
All in all, I enjoyed the round, even though my game fell apart on the last 6 holes. I have always enjoyed Cypress Lakes, then Ormond CC, since my junior career started there. The owners take pride in the golf course and are striving to constantly make improvements to give us the best conditions they can possibly achieve. The rate of $70 I paid for a Saturday, I believe, is right where it needs to be.
