Edit - This review was originally written on the date of play- August 17th, 2025. We spent some time with support and finally got our blog post issue resolved.
It had been a long time since our last visit to Pinewood Golf Club. With an older layout that is fun to play, it was a great course to get out and have another match against Jay and his son, Hudson. (Video at bottom)
Pinewood Golf Club almost gives you a feel of going back in time. The clubhouse, to my understanding, is unchanged since it was built in 1963. Same with the layout of the golf course. The entire property is built in a subdivision where all the holes are next to each other. This also makes the golf course very walkable, as just about every tee is next to the previous green.
During my last visit to Pinewood Golf Club, they were doing some cleanup of trees and other debris from a storm. They were also fixing some things around the golf course at that time. I didn't know if on this visit I would see significant changes or things unnoticeable. Honestly, i didn't notice much difference from my last visit, except some trees that were trimmed back or just gone. There may be more than that, but for a golf course, I only get to maybe 3 to 4 times a year, I wouldn't expect to notice much unless it were big changes.
Anytime I go to play Pinewood, I never expect great conditions. It is not a private country club or a $150 golf course. At around $40 with a cart ($20 to walk), you can't expect high-end or tour-like conditions. What you can expect, however, is that the staff is super nice and welcoming every time. Even the members you run across are very friendly.
The golf course overall is decent for the price. We started on the back 9 for our day and were quite pleased with what we saw at first. The fairways, except for one hole, were pretty decent with plush grass, and the greens were rolling decently. There was one issue of an old bunker having so much grass in it, I lost a golf ball, but other than that, the back 9 was nice. The turn to the front showed the golf course a bit differently. The fairways were all pretty good for the most part, but the greens were not. Many of the greens on the front 9 were nice, just like the back 9, but there were a few that were pretty bad. Even with some of the inconsistency between nines, we had a great time, and Pinewood is a great golf course for beginners and a golf place to bring the kids for some fun.
Overall Conditions: 2 out of 5
Tees: 2.5 out of 5
The tee boxes were generally consistent. There were a few that didn't have much grass on them, but even those tee boxes where the grass was, it was good. The majority of the tee boxes were covered in grass, and although it may not have been tightly cut like a fairway, they were not long either. Even the par-3 tee boxes were good enough that you could play without needing a tee. The tee boxes were generally level as well, which can be more important than the grass on them.
Fairways: 3 out of 5
Probably the most consistent part of the entire golf course, with the exception of 2, maybe 3 holes. The grass was healthy and cut to a decent height. You will see in the video that many of the fairways looked pristine. Although every fairway was not as pretty as some, the surface was playable, and you got a decent lie. The approach areas were probably all the best areas of every fairway and looked plush and green.
Greens: 2 out of 5
The greens are the hardest to rank. Many of the greens, like the entire back 9, I want to rank at a 4. They were not fast, but the ball rolled really well. They were soft and receptive but also looked good and healthy. The front 9 greens, however, I almost want to rank hole by hole. Some were just as good as the back 9, but some were almost not even a putting surface. There is a part in the video where we see the first bad green, and it was really bad. Then the next few holes were good until another semi-bad green. A few more good ones until our last hole. I will admit the two worst greens out there are probably due to the proximity to the trees and getting too much shade. I am sure one day they can recover these, but it will take time.
All in all, I enjoy Pinewood Golf Club as it is. If you are looking to not spend a lot of money to play golf and not score, or just work on your swing and accuracy, it is a perfect place to do so. I personally enjoy the layout, and if I were to win the lottery, I would invest in Pinewood to help them restore the entire golf course and conditions. We need more golf courses that are not about just ripping the driver as far as you can, and that put an emphasis on accuracy and short game.
